Mix of Highlights: Parliament, Vienna

The houses of parliament of Austria, by the Ringstraße Boulevard. They were built in neo-Classical style in the late 19th century. The statue in front of the builing is a Pallas Athene, the Greek goddess of wisdom. The original plan was to erect an "Austria", an allegory of the Austrian nation. This, however, faced fierce opposition from the Hungarian population that was worried about being spared out of the newly formed administrative body. The goddess of wisdom was a compromise - I doubt that she works, though.
